Water in a diorama   DUKW + GPA Ford

Lots of space was filled with white styrene (Isomo) plate , in order to save some silicone-paste and also for the reason that the silicones would dry out much faster.

Silicone-pasta drys out on the air. So it took appromimately 3 – 4 weeks for a complete dry result .

Verschillende plaatsen zijn opgevuld met isomo, dit om wat silicone-pasta te sparen en ook om de silicone wat vlugger te doen drogen.

Silicone-pasta droogt uit in de lucht. Het duurt ongeveer 3 à 4 weken om alles volledig te laten drogen.

5. The silicone part (try-out) Brand = Top craft Aldi

   Het silicone deel (probeersel) merk = Top craft Aldi

I used appr. 4 tubes silicones.

With a little detergent ( Dreft ) I could easely mould the silicones in an appropriate form.  Moulding the waves wasn’t very easy because I

 couldn’t instantly see the result.  So it was forming and molding , hoping that the  result would be good.

Ik heb ongeveer 4 tubes silicone gebruikt.

Met een beetje wasmiddel (Dreft) kon ik gemakkelijk de sillicone vormen tot een goede vorm. De golven modelleren was niet zo gemakkelijk omdat ik niet direct het resultaat kon zien. Zodoende was het passen en meten, en hopen dat het resultaat goed ging zijn.

6. Placement of the vehicles  /   Plaatsing van de voertuigen

When the silicines are stil wet , it is very easy tot push the vehicles in it.

You have lots of time to do so. It takes several days to dry out. And you have the time for adjusting the silicones moulded pasta against the surface of the verhicles.

Met de silicone nog steeds nat is het heel gemakkelijk om de voertuigen te plaatsen.

Je hebt tijd genoeg om dat te doen. Dit omdat de silicone toch verschillende dagen nodig heeft om te drogen. Tevens heb je tijd om de silicone tegen de voertuigen te vormen.

At this point I was very satisfied of the result.

Op dit punt was ik heel tevreden over het resultaat.

7. The finishing touch

The paint job.

I tried to create a visible difference in coastal water and deeper ocean waters.

Normaly, on such small surface you don’t see any difference.

But, like I said earlier, this is a test case.

Paint :  Acrylics did very well on the silicone surface.

Aqua Revell colors  ( dark green – sand Brown -…/…)

Vallejo colors ( ultramarin blue – Prussian blue ../..)

White stripes of foam in the waves : drybrushed with Aqua Revell (white flat )

The whole set is then brushed with a glossy varnisch  ( Vallejo )

The same glossy varnisch is used for creating waterstripes on the vehicles.

Het schilderwerk.

Ik het geprobeerd om een visueel verschil in te bouwen van het kustwater en de diepere zeer.

Normaal gezien zou je op zo’n kleine plaats weinig verschil kunnen zien. Maar, zoals ik zei - dit is een probeersel.

Verf: Acryl verf komt heel goed uit op een silicone ondergrond.

Aqua Revell kleuren ( dark green – sand Brown -…/…)

Vallejo kleuren ( ultramarin blue – Prussian blue ../..)

Witte schuimsporen op de golven :

drybrushed met Aqua Revell (white flat )

Het gehele diorama is dan geschilderd met blinkende vernis (Vallejo). Dezelfde blinkende vernis is gebruikt om watersporen op de voertuigen na te bootsen.
